Well it is November and like clock work the right wing blogs are all over the so called war on Christmas and about some tax on Christmas trees that the industry itself implemented to help with advertising the business.

Well it is a pagan symbol so why should you care.

Jeremiah 10:2-4 in the Bible says the following (King James Version):

[2] This is what the Lord says: Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the sky, though the nations are terrified by them. [3] For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. [4] They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter.

Sounds like what you do with a Christmas tree.

Just educating those who do not know what the good book states about those who cut those trees and decorate them.

In my opinion, the scripture you are citing is NOT referring to Christmas trees. The modern day Christmas tree is not addressed in the Bible.

This Scripture refers to the making of a graven or carved image out of a tree trunk, as shown in verse 5: "Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good."

Given, the Bible has more interpretations than you can imagine and different versions have interpreted this passage differently. I’m sure we could all find an interpretation to suit our wishes.

According to Wikipedia “The custom of erecting a Christmas tree can be historically traced to 15th century Livonia (present-day Estonia and Latvia) and 16th century Northern Germany.”

That being said, to blame Obama for this tax and make a big religious deal out of it is stupid and a waste of time. If they want to get riled about something, they should get riled that churches have been banned from putting up nativity scenes because someone driving by may be insulted by it or that stores/malls have banned Christmas displays and music. I have never understood this type of PC stuff. I am not offended by a menorah. If someone wishes me Happy Hannukah or Happy Kwanzaa, I smile and wish them the same. Why would I be insulted by someone wishing me well? I can see the beauty in the religious displays of others even though I don’t follow their traditions and beliefs.

I believe the King James version of Jeremiah 10:5 is “They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.”

"making of a graven or carved image out of a tree trunk,"

You mean like a cross that his hung in most every christian church like that kind of gravin image.

I know it is 2nd out of the 10.

You shall not make for yourself any carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Most christian churches have been breaking this one for centuries and people even bow down to that cross a gravin image based on the 2nd commandment

I was just pointing out the so called war is not really a war on christmas or chrisitans, that the right wing blogs are all up in arms about it something that is originally pagan not christian in the first place.

The cross is a religious symbol but I don’t think it is generally “worshipped”. My religion does not bow to the cross, but the symbol is revered. There again, I think it is all in the interpretation….false idols, which would be worshipped, versus religious symbols and traditions that honor God.

I agree with your point that the Christmas tree tax is not a war on Christmas or Christians, but I disagree that the Christmas tree was originally a pagan symbol. Jeremiah was written long before the coming of Christ. Scholars have been having the Christmas tree debate for years and arguing over interpretation. I think it’s all about what is in your heart.

***It wouldn't let me post this using the abbreviation for versus. :)
