Look. El Nino is present as all Meteorologists are telling us. This is the reason for the warming. "Decades" does not prove anything. Recorded weather only credibly goes back 180 years. In 1988 the Calgary Olympics melted also, and this was when the same scientists (give or take a few) stated we were in global cooling. Al Gore has proven that he is a hypocrite and has made another fortune with his lecture series. Forgetting perhaps that his family made a veritable fortune in the cattle industry (supposedly one of the factors to global warming). So his word is not only an uneducated one but smells suspiciously like "Green" backs.
You type and I quote "significant segment of the scientific community has predicted for over a decade". Anequal amount of scientists refute those rediculous statements.
I do personally believe that the globe is warming. And in about 700 years as the other part of science states we will increase temperatures to the point of maybe .8 degrees. But the warming is not a direct result of greed and capitalism. North America was 1500 feet under ice less than 10,000 years ago. Of course the globe is warming! It is a natural cycle.
Youcandoit, I have never said that I believe capitalism is the cause of all the world's troubles. Since I have never said such a thing, it does not surprise me that you cannot cite a quote of mine to back up your false accusation.
Ironic, that you accuse me of posting falsehoods, yet it is you who claims I believe something that I do not believe and have *NEVER* said in this forum or anywhere else.
Kidmason, you wrote

The prediction I referred to, concerned the increasingly warm temperaures leading to unusually intense storms in both summer and winter.
Can you explain why a prediction that has proven to be quite accurate this winter is "ridiculous"?
I will happily refrain from misconstruing your comments if you will return the favor.
I cannot control your perceptions about what I write. I can only control my own words.
Since my words on several occasions have spoken in favor of capitalism, I respectfully submit that your conclusions about my views on free enterprise are incorrect.
At the risk of beating a dead horse, my comments from just a few weeks ago. I can tolerate many, many things.
But false claims about what I believe is not one of those things.

I have no problem at all with capitalism and profit. I also think it is a bogus right wing stereotype that the left is universally anti profit. Nothing could be further from the truth. George Soros, Bill Gates, and Ted Turner are three of the richest men in the known universe. They are all quite liberal. I have plans for my own small business in the not too distant future. I certainly hope that it will be profitable, and perhaps even be able to provide a job or two to someone else.
My problem is not with private enterprise, but with its inflexible advocates who would insist that the market is always a superior solution, as opposed to government.
Youcandoit, yes I do criticize the shortcomings of capitalism.
What I objected to is portrayal of my criticism as universal hatred of the free market.
Yes I do think that a free market economy puts freedom in direct proportion to how much cash we have.
I would love to have a house on the Sonoma Coast near Bodega Bay. I do not have the cash to afford such a residence. I do not equate that with tyranny, but it is an undisputable fact.
My ability to live in a home on the Sonoma coast is restricted. Whether by lack of cash or by a government restriction, for me the result is exactly the same. That is what I mean when I say our freedom is defined by how much money we have.
Lack of financial resources restricts your options as surely as any governmet regulation could. I say that not in condemnation, but in observation of the facts.
I find it interesting the number of people who do not understand the term GLOBAL. Global warming or global climate change is exactly that, a global change, not a change in the weather in a small part of the United States. While some of us sit here and mention how cold it is in our backyards, the polar ice caps continue to melt at an increasingly faster rate as each year goes by. As far as this being something only Al gore believes in, someone needs to get a grip on reality and look who else in this big glovbal environment is also bringing up the facts on GLOBAL climate change.
