What Does It All Mean?

There is no shortage of partisans ready to declare that if Republicans win the gubanatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia on Tuesday, it is "proof" that America is rejecting the policies of the Democrats in Washington DC.

I humbly offer the following grains of salt. In November 2001, when the country was as unified as it ever was behind President Bush in the wake of 09/11, Democrats were elected governor in both New Jersey and Virginia. As I recall, President Bush continued to serve for another seven years afterward.

Ignore the bloggers and partisans. Take the events of next Tuesday for what they are, and no more. Two elections where people are making a decision about specific individuals as candidates, and not about national government policy.

It's called DENIAL! They deny Christ, Life, Liberty and many others, but mostly they have a defect called acceptance! I'm just waiting for the race card to be used again as an excuse for this election WIN for conservatives. I'll be sure to post it when it comes in.

Right on schedule. . Last night is being hailed as some momentous turning point in American politics. I knew it would be. If nothing else, right wingers are predictable.

Youcandoit, I will continue to watch what happens. Even when they win, right wingers cannot avoid the name-calling. Is calling people names one of those "traditional values" you guys talk about?

I may be a "left wing whacko" as you so cleverly put it. But thank goodness, I am not a right winger and will not follow their example of engaging in denial and dodging the facts when candidates and ideas that I believe in, lose at the ballot box.

You see, I can recognize and admit defeat when the defeat is real. There is no making a silk purse out of this sow's ear of an election.

It is bad news for health care reform, that is undeniable. But what does it actually mean? I lived in and went to school in Massachusetts in the 1970's. My first vote for President was as a resident of Massachusetts in 1972 when I voted for George McGovern and he carried that state but no other.

Based on what I know, the state is still just as liberal as it ever was. John Kerry was reelected last time, possession of marijuana deemed for personal use has been decriminalized, and gay marriage (not civil unions) is legal.

Right wing partisans will tell us that the Massachusetts election is "proof" that America is rejecting health care reform.

Left wing partisans will tell us that the election is "proof" that the Democratic base is apathetic and did not turn out because the party is not far enough to the left.

It is pointless to debate Rorschach tests. But the notion that Massachusetts is now somehow a red state is laughable and irrelevant.

The issue for me is immediate. What does this mean for the bills passed in the House and Senate? We have seen that it is futile to try and compromise with the GOP. Their agenda is to kill the bill and preserve the system that maximizes private sector profits via corporate rationing of health care insurance.

I think the Democrats should use whatever options remain at their disposal to get a bill out of conference and to the President. If they lack the political will to do that, then you can count me among those who are disappointed with Democrats.

But for those of you who are relieved and pleased that "tyranny" has been defeated; that the right of poor, helpless insurance companies to deny insurance, and raise prices anytime they ---- well please just may have been saved, you do indeed have ample cause to celebrate.

So let us all raise a toast to pre existing conditions and corporate rationing. Every real American knows that profit must always take priority over the well being of people. If you cannot afford to pay for something, then you obviously do not deserve to have it. Even if you might die without it. Only in America.

Blah, Blah, Blah... I agree, lets put the government in charge of health care. They would do a much better job than the free market. Their record speaks for itself. Try tort reform and criminalization of frivolous lawsuits and see if that works...

I saw a point made in one of the leftist blog sites I frequent. I think it bears repeating here. The battle for equality is done. ...

The Myth of the Liberal Media
