I try not to get too excited about polls regardless of whether the polling results support my opinions or contradict them. I remember quite well the polls showing Tom Bradley defeating George Deukmejian for governor, and more recently those September 2008 polls showing McCain/Palin ahead of Obama/Biden.
As things turned out, whoever paid for those pre-printed t-shirts celebrating the inaugurations of Governor Bradley and President McCain, most likely did not turn a profit on those endeavors.
But I do want to highlight an interesting result from a recent poll. The poll was conducted by Fox News. I find it noteworthy because I cannot think of any organization that has more incentive to skew a poll as negatively as possible towards the President.
We see that even Fox polling shows that despite the missives written in various blogs, America has a pretty good understanding of the current state of our economy. Overall, America believes that eight years of President Bush's policies affect our economy to a greater extent than nine months of President Obama's policies.
It is encouraging to see that a network where on-air personalities refer to the President as a "racist", and snicker about the Speaker of the House being poisoned or burning in hell, has a polling operation which reports that America is not lacking in good old fashioned common sense.
The complete poll results are at the link included below. According to the Fox poll, the President's overall approval rating is 50%. The question on the economy is question #22 in the survey results shown at the link.
I wish there was a way to conduct a scientific poll where the participants answered essay questions. I would love to hear the answers to the question of why the people who defended each and every action of the Bush administration for over six years, are ready to declare Obama a failure after only nine months.
Regardless of the reasons they might specify, this poll released yesterday illustrates that the view of Obama as a failure after less than a year in office, is a distinctly minority opinion.
It still begs the question of how an organization can call itself an objective news organization when it is actively involved in organizing and promoting protests. Imagine MSNBC advertising an abortion rights or gun contol march on Washington, with promos promising appearances by Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews.
But Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and others actively promote and appear at Tea Party rallies, and it is "Nixonian" to wonder aloud if Fox is really a news organization.
I think Lewis Carroll said it best
