Take Me To Post Comment Form

Since there appears to be some confusion about the differences between the two Koreas maybe a peek at the current November 2009 "American Legion Magazine" would be helpful...Pages 49 to 52 cover the "FAiled States" as described by the Foreign Policy Magazine and Fund for Peace. on pg50 under the heading "INGREDIENTS OF SUCCESS AND FAILURE" What this survey of surveys tells us is that failed states are not free, and countries thjat embracew freedom are gemerally not failed states.
There is no more exquisite proof of what makes a failed state and a successfull statethan the Korean penninsula. Here is one nationality divided into two countries, two forms of government and two economic systems. One is free and connected to the world, the other enslaved and isolated. The difference is breathtaking...
NORTH KOREA SOUTH KOREA
GDP $40 billion $1.27 Trillion
GDP growth
rate -2.3 % 2.5%

per capita GDP $1,700 $26,000

EXPORTS 1.68 billion $419 BIllion

life expentancy 63 78

infant mortality
rate/1000 51.34 4.2

The rest of the article states that North Korea is among the lowest of the low among failed countries... along with Iran, Somalia, Zimbabwe and Hati among others. Oh yes I can see how the left would be so confused!!!! Of course I would expect them to refuse to accept the American Legion as a source....I doubt it is approved reading by the Democratic Party

Korea is doing better than us when it comes to infant mortality.

2009 infant mortality around the world.
http://www.infoplease.com/world/stati...

Korea 4.3
US 6.2 by the way that number went up since 2007. which was 6.1 per 1000.

Did you miss that Socialist North Korea had 51.34????? compared to 6.2 or 4.3???

Jerry here is another list for you. to compare infant mortality. Those countries with universal healthcare also have the lowest infant mortality.

http://truecostblog.com/2009/08/09/co...

Unfortunately we are not at the top of that list because we do not have universal health care we are at the bottom.

Suppose to be the most powerful nation in the world but not the healthiest.

canative62 it is you right wingers who rely on that old question the source technique when you have no other rebuttal. I just find it fascinating that you accuse leftists of the very behavior that is practiced almost exclusively by the conservatives in this forum.

When have midwestgirl or I or any other liberal in this forum questioned a legitimate source? Your ideological colleague newsense does it all the time in response to my links. I just find it perplexing that you make these remarks about "approved reading" when in fact it is the folks who agree with you who are far more likely to argue that the source of specific information makes that information untrustworthy.

In any case, I notice two things. First, South Korea with its SOCIALIST single payer universal health care has a lower infant mortality rate than we do.

Second, every one of our closest political, economic, and cultural allies including Britain, Israel, Japan, France, Germany and of course South Korea practice some form of SOCIALIZED medicine.

Interestingly enough, Russia has a health care system where the private sector plays a prominent role. All citizens are covered by a no frills no cost basic state package. Specialized or catastrophic care insurance must be purchased in the private sector. According to a 2007 NY Times article, Russian health care is among the worst in the world, despite the involvement of the private sector.

and who the heck is confusing North and South Korea anyway??????????????????

Jerry,

Just an honest question for you, if independents disagree with you, do you still call them Democrats? Also, can you explain why only 20% of the electorate claim to be republican? Just asking.

Sov... If they were legislators and voted the Dem party way YES and if they support the Dem agenda ... yes Especially if they use the same exact arguments the party uses..... As for who is confused .... ask Mhoffman... we were talking about South Korea and he responded about North Korea.... as if they were the same.....
P.S.
AS far as the Bulletin blogs since both sides can not stop being personal I can no longer be part.Sounds like neither side can use facts on the issue just some nit picky fact to jab the other side. That in no way resembles a debate but more like a street brawl.... .. too much name calling and missing the point....BYE
