Well, my results are in for the week! I came in just $1 over budget! We have a bbq to go to tomorrow, and I'm making my famous colombian shrimp salsa (yum! Check out my recipe below.)which is why I went a little over budget.) Regardless, I only spent a dollar over at Winco. Then a couple trips to Grocery Outlet and Dollar Tree for other necessities and snacks, and my grand total for the week was $125.01. I'd like to have done better, but that's still a functional budget for our family. Hopefully, next week I will do better and balance it all out. Anyway, here are my results for Winco...

Cottonelle 12 pack double rolls
6 pack paper towels (store brand)
Cuddle Soft fabric softener (now using my clothesline to save money on our pg&e!)
2 22 count carefree panty liners(coupons)
1 bottle liquid dish soap (off brand)

Groceries (in receipt order)

1 gal 2% milk (store brand)
Shasta 2ltr root beer
Shasta 2ltr lemon lime
Hawaiian Punch 1 gal
V8 Juice
Coffee creamer (store brand)
Kikoman soy sauce
2 cans diced tomatoes w/green chilis (store brand)
5 pkgs Maruchen ramen
1 large box corn flakes (store brand)
1 loaf wheat bread (store brand)
Frito Lay variety pack chips
1 large bag tortilla chips (off brand)
Nabisco cheese nips
Jiffy cornbread mix
1 jar mayonnaise (store brand)
1 frozen oj concentrate
1 pkg gummies peach flavored candies
1 pkg ranch dressing mix
1 18 count large eggs
1 1/2lbs sugar (bulk)
S&W can of coffee
1 lb roasted almonds (bulk)
1 lb black turtle beans, dry (bulk)
1 lb butter
1 1/4lb rice (bulk)
1 pkg Queso Fresca cheese
1 pkg frozen swirl pops
1 lb frozen shrimp, small, cooked
1 lb ground beef
1 pkg frozen green beans
1 pkg frozen mixed vegetables
2 lbs frozen tilapia fillets
1 bunch celery
5 lbs pears
3 heads of romaine hearts
2 bunches green onions
6 avacados
4 roma tomatoes
2 bunches cilantro
1 bell pepper
5 lbs potatoes
3 mangos
1 white onion

Total for Winco...

Grocery Outlet
1 lb Goodlife Adult cat food
16 lbs Wholesome Medley Kibbles & Bits dog food

Dollar Tree (For goodies and snacks!)
1 pkg Werthers hard candies
1 8 pack Twix
1 pkg ring pops
1 box Dots candy
1 pkg striped shortbread cookies
1 Duncan Hines Brownie mix
1 lint roller
1 3pack soap bars
2 Softsoap hand soaps

Colombian Shrimp Salsa
6 big stalks celery - diced
1 bunch green onions - diced
3 -6 ripe avacados - spoon out in chunks
2 cups small bay shrimp
6 cups V-8 Juice
1 bunch cinlantro - diced
1 lb caso fresco - cut up or break up

Season to taste w/tabasco sauce and garlic powder and salt

Stir it all together. Serve w/tortilla chips or crackers

You can also add rinsed canned black beans and/or cucumber

Also...for those who do not like shrimp, you can serve the shrimp on the side rather than stirring it into the salsa. This is what I do since not everyone in my family likes shrimp. Just place it in a bowl alongside the salsa.

This is a hit at backyard bbq's!!

Budget tips this week....Goal for a week! Try as many generic versions of your favorite items that you can this week! If you don't like them, you don't have to buy them again. But you may be surprised. If you find you like them, you will save a little money this week! And if you don't like them, you can keep using your favorites! But you won't know until you try!

Budget tip #2...Try drying your clothes on a clothesline. You can set one up easily. Dolar tree sells the line and clothes pins. Invest in a bottle of fabric softener and voila! Old fashioned savings! There's something very therapeutic about hanging your clothes on the line and watching them flutter in the breeze on a sunny day, then taking them down and smelling the fresh air scent. Mmmmmmm! And a little extra money in your pocket when the pg&e bill comes in. Or if that's not your motivation, think about being able to run your air conditioner more during the triple digits! I'd say it's a fair exchange!

So until next Friday, happy budgeting! :)
