Women are Smarter!

There has always been and probably will always be debates between the sexes. Who is stronger, who has greater endurance, who's better with finances... There now is undeniable proof that women are smarter.

In an article by Pauline Jelinek of the Associated Press, she reveals that women in the military are NOT so inclined to take up arms in the front lines in combat. You know, driving tanks, firing artillery pieces, or serving in the infantry, the 'queen of battle'.

http://www.ajc.com/ap/ap/defense/no-rush-by-women-in-military-to-join-infantry/nTnTJ/

Let me be clear here. I am NOT saying women CAN'T serve in front line combat units, they are just a whole lot smarter because they choose not to.

I am also not slamming women in the military. Far from it. Some of the most capable and talented people I worked with during my service were women. Women are capable of almost anything male members can do. There is just this last bastion of the male persona in the war fighting arena that says women don't belong up front and personal in combat.

I'm enough of a chauvinist to admit that I personally feel that the front line isn't the place for ladies. But I would never stop them if that is where they wanted to be and it were legal.

The US Military has taken great strides over the years to include the fairer sex equally across the board. The US Navy with few exceptions allows women to serve on warships around the globe. The Air Force has less than a handful of postings that women cannot fill. Women fly the most sophisticated fighters in the world, at one time that would have been laughed at. The Army has opened almost every job to women, with the exception of the three combat arms. Women have served and continue to serve proudly in all branches. They have sacrificed their psyche, their limbs, and their lives right alongside their male counterparts.

So if and when the military lifts all restrictions on combat assignments, there will be women willing and able to fill them. In the meantime, women are smart enough not to want to.

Women have been fighting in wars in one way or another as long as there have been wars.
Technically there not suppose to be on the line, but that is merely a technicality on the books in my opinion.
I think if that door opens and it's "put on the books" it might surprise us how many women would want to be in combat.
Is it smart well that is left up to the individual who wants to really do that to decide if its a smart choice.
I would personally not like to see women get drafted ,but the door is already ajar as to women being included in wartime and if this is something that women want then that should be offered .Women are dying in wars just like men are.
As long as there are humans unfortunately there will be wars, wish that it were not so.

Hello Bull153,

Two things, 1) If you were in Vietnam, you know first hand about the deadly effect of women in the fron lines. A high percentage of NVA were women. 2) What is the point here? Are you saying people who serve in frontline combat are "stupid?"

Either way, you have a real terrible time singling out women in many of your posts. One might call your frequent digs at women to be sexist.

"Women are capable of almost anything male members can do."

WRONG!!! Women are capable of EVERYTHING men can do. So try and remember that the next time you say you are "not slamming women."

Bull153 commented on Saturday, Jan 05, 2013 at 20:10 PM

@ rozemist...

There is no doubt that women have seen combat as you say from the time of the first wars. While it has always been mostly a manly endeavor, women have fought for themselves, their families, and their countries throughout history. They fight when they must, men fight because they can. There is quite a difference.

No one opposes war more than the warriors who must fight and die in them, regardless of gender.

I join you in the hope that someday, perhaps even in our lifetime, we put an end to war.

I found a link to a website that shows ten things than men can do that women can't. I found it a bit humorous, and I acknowledge that there are certainly things women can do that men cannot. Viva la difference!

crimeriddendump;

Women are not capable of everything a man can do. Men are not capable of everything a woman can do. There are certain physical traits that are not interchangeable.

Women don't produce sperm so they cannot fertilize eggs. Women cannot have an erection. Women cannot grow beards and facial hair.

To be fair, men cannot bear children nor can they produce breast milk and breast feed their young.

So, when Ron says "Women are capable of almost anything male members can do." he is factually correct. Try and remember that the next time you accuse someone of slamming women.

"When women are depressed, they eat or go shopping"

Is that quote suppost to make you seem LESS sexist? UNEAL!!!

Further, what does sexuality and facial hair have anything to do with combat postings?

"Anything" would be in regards to military capability. What exactly can a man do in a military sense that a woman cannot? Women can shoot a gun just as well as a man, Women can lead troops as well as men. women can follow and execute orders as well as a man. So, aside from sexist reasoning regarding sexual anatomy , what is your point?

Focusing on sexual organs does not help to make you seem less sexist. Quite the opposite actually.

44Magnum commented on Saturday, Jan 12, 2013 at 20:20 PM

crimeriddendump;

You amaze people at your ridiculous comments and postings. The quote Ron posted was from Elayne Boosler, a comediane. If you think it was sexist, take it up with her. I found it insightful and funny.

You said "WRONG!!! Women are capable of EVERYTHING men can do." You didn't quantify it or mention combat. You clearly said everything. Not most everything, or anything military, you clearly said everything. So don't get all bent out of shape when I correct your obviously incorrect assertion that women are capable of everything men can do. Obviously, they are not.

There is no doubt in my mind that women are smarter than men. While neither sex can do everything the other can, members of the same sex can't do everything another member can. It is a silly argument. But smarter, I agree, women are much smarter than men.

Many women died on the front lines of WWII in the Soviet Union. That's a fighting force that allowed women in it, that allowed women to be at the front line of combat. And they did a damn good job. I'm reminded of Woody Guthrie's song about a Soviet sniper who killed a lot of Nazis "Miss Pavlichenko"

crimeriddendump commented on Wednesday, Jan 16, 2013 at 01:22 AM

Ever notice how Bull153 and "ramrod" are the only one obsessed with Lindsay Lohan?

Ramrod commented on Thursday, Jan 17, 2013 at 00:13 AM

I had a teacher that told me everyone has worth, even if they are nothing more than a good bad example. Lindsey Lohan is a human being, but she is a sory excuse for a person. That is harsh and I'm sorry if that's offensive, but that is what I believe.

I don't have an obsession with Li-Lo, I just think she is a spoiled brat who gets far more attention that she deserves and gets far more breaks than anyone deserves. I guess if you are rich and spoiled you expect that.

I don't know about bull153, but I'm not obsessed. I just despise her, that's all.

Capitalists_Nightmare commented on Thursday, Jan 17, 2013 at 00:44 AM

She gets far more attention then she deserves yet you keep bringing her up, therefore getting her more attention. I don't follow all the messes she's in, when she breaks this or that law, her court proceedings, etc, but every time you bring her up I learn something new about her that I really don't care about.

Lindsey Lohan related story, my aunt who used to live in the LA area(Now in the bay area) was married to a cop. One night they got into a argument and he punched her in the face(Which is not surprising, statistically you're twice as likely to be the victim of domestic abuse if your partner is a cop. In some surveys as high as 40% of cops say they have used violence against their partner within the last year http://www.purpleberets.org/violence_...) and pushed her. As she was falling to the ground she tried grabbing onto him to keep herself up which ended in her scratching him. She ran to the bathroom and locked herself in it and called the cops. When the cops got there what happened? They knew each other, greeted each other, they're friendly. He tells his pig friends that my aunt is crazy, she attacked him, he was defending himself, etc, and pointed to the scratches on his arm as evidence. So my aunt who is devastated by her husband assaulting her is now taken to jail because who are you going to trust? Of course the respectable police officer! But since she's the wife of a cop she gets to be where "special" cases get to stay in jail. Who was the person in the next stall over? LINDSEY LOHAN!

Crazy right, my aunt met Lindsey Lohan in jail! Because my aunt's then husband was so merciful he did not press charges. That's justice in America folks!

BTW, isn't this blog a divisive one? Why divide the sexes or any other sub-group of the whole of this country to make a point? Why such a divisive opinion? Why the constant need to divide to present oneself as superior and able to determine how things should be and who can participate.

Its just the nature of a conservative to divide in order to gain.

Bull153 commented on Friday, Jan 18, 2013 at 14:45 PM

I don't see how my blog is divisive. I said women are capable of almost anything men can do, and men are capable of almost anything women can do. There is no competition, just facts.

"You constantly denigrate Conservatives and Republicans. That's pretty divisive to me." - Pointing out the ridiculousness in the Conservatives, their constant lies and misperceptions, and their failed ideals is not divisive since I am not making anything up. Warning people by pointing to facts in history, and by questioning everything a conservative says based on their lack of verifiable credibility is not divisive. If they look ridiculous it is because they are.

Conservatives choose to be a Conservative, women don't choose to be born a woman, yet in our country they are supposed to have as many rights as a man. There is no good reason that they shouldn't be allowed to freely exercise those rights as they so choose.

If they, or any other sub group of the whole nation meets the qualifications then there should be no law or policy that stands in the way. Your's and other Conservative's fears have nothing to do with the ability of a person to exercise their right to defend their nation if they meet the qualifications that are required.

It is demeaning to even have the conversation as to whether a member of the human race is unqualified to compete and face the demands of defending their nation. Countries around the world have come to terms with this reality, but not in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Here it is reasonable for the extreme to cut out subgroups as inferior in different aspects of life in order to elevate their own standing, and gain control. But then, that is what Conservatives do.

@ rozemist...

Yes, I noted that outgoing SecDef Leon Panetta has initiated steps to allow American women into all the combat arms. You go, girls!

I have to wonder if Mr. Panetta has equality in his heart, or other, more sensible reasons driving his actions. Yes, yes... I know the Joint Chiefs of Staff recommended it, but why.. and why now?

I suspect it has something to do with retention and recruitment. You see, we have been at war for over a decade. Even with the severe drawbacks and cuts to the service, there will always be a need for the grunts... the people that hit the front lines and take on the enemy directly. Seems lower than expected re-enlistments and shortage of qualified recruits may be the real reason behind these moves.

I also wonder what the qualifications are going to be. You see, despite claims that 'women can do EVERYTHING a man can do', the services have always treated the ladies with a bit of deference. Their weight to height ratio is different, they are allowed more time for their runs, they can do modified pushups, and so forth. With the fairer sex on the front lines, will they actually have to meet the same standards as their male counterparts?

I suspect the smarter women will avoid combat like the plague. I've served with women. For the most part, they did excellent work. (Yes, there were males that didn't perform up to expectations, too!) I had no problem with them in the service, and if they want to serve in combat they have my blessing. It may be the only way we'll be able to fill the ranks without going back to the draft.

sexism? who? where?

KarenPearsall commented on Thursday, Jan 24, 2013 at 14:13 PM

If a woman can meet the required physical standards for serving on front-line combat lines, then there should be no reason to deny her that opportunity, if she so desires it. Not all women will jump at the chance to serve in this capacity, but just as there was resistance, at first, to female firefighters and comments that women weren't strong enough to drag hoses or lift bodies during rescue, but some female firefighter candidates proved these naysayers wrong, if a woman can meet the mental and physical demands of the job, then that speaks for itself. I have a question for redeyedrider: Is the number one female tennis player challenging the 100 top males to a tennis game, a wrestling match, or a sharpshooting contest? Context matters in asserting one's opinion or position. Sincerely, Karen

redeyedrider commented on Thursday, Jan 24, 2013 at 14:38 PM

That would be tennis. But I suppose you could look to all athletes in their respective "physical" sport for a comparison. Tennis, Basketball, Football, Baseball, Hockey, ect.... There is an obvious pattern that emerges that can not be denied. No doubt that women are equally equiped in any mental capacity, but you yourself stated that there are 2 qualities at play here. mental and PHYSICAL. I am not arguing for male against female I base my opinion solely on data, and I would be just as quick to support WHHICHEVER side the data supports.

crimeriddendump commented on Thursday, Jan 24, 2013 at 15:21 PM

Sounds like sexism to me. Generalizations are sexism when applied in your context. I'll paraphrase:

The strongest man is stronger than the strongest women. Therefore, women are weaker than men. Therefore, women should not be in combat.

First, that is faulty logic. Can the average women do the same jobs as men in the military? Absolutely! I fail to see how a tennis match has any context here except to setup a straw man argument that can be easily taken apart.

Second, in the years of service of women in the military, when have "tennis skills" or actual physical might been a job requirement for a specific military operation? So long as one is capable of pulling 9lbs on the trigger guard of a M16, I fail to see how good your "tennis" is for that to matter.

Third, the VC used quite a few women on the fornt lines of their combat. How did that work out for us again?

midwestgirl commented on Friday, Jan 25, 2013 at 11:06 AM

I found this one this morning with another right wing excuse why woman should not be on the front lines.
