This is a copy of the letter I submitted and was published today. However the year(s) I mentioned were incorrect. I sent in a corrected copy but apparently it was too late. I just wanted to clear that up. My Bad...

Judging from the letter which appeared in the Your Views section on Aug 08 (More Worried about how Obama
Spends Taxes), http://www.mantecabulletin.com/section/37/article/50071/
it seems some people are more than a bit confused about the call for Willard Romney to release his tax returns and even less informed about who wants to tax who.
Aside from the confusion the writer shows, suggesting we should not focus on the up-coming holiday season because of the election being " ..the biggest Presidential vote in our history ..", apparently forgetting the election is weeks before Thanksgiving, so I would doubt anyone is shopping for the perfect turkey just yet. The writer suggests the call for Willard's tax returns is because of claims of alleged tax evasion on Willard's part. The writer defends Willard against such charges, citing what Willard would be risking by doing so and the fact that he is too smart to do such a thing.
This couldn't be more true, but that's not the reason for the interest in Willards tax records.
The simple fact is, nobody is accusing Willard of tax evasion. The accusation is that Willard paid little or no taxes on his millions of dollars in income, especially 2008/9. Having paid little or no income taxes does not mean he did so by cheating, only that, like many other wealthy individuals who make their money in the same manner, he simply used the many tax loopholes that are available to them. The whole idea of bringing this up is to shine a brighter light on the need for tax reform and how it favors the very wealthy. That and the fact that Willard doesn't want that information made public, saying "You will just have to trust me". Yeah, right...
Now it is fair to say, not many people who work for a living or have a small business have anything in common with Willard on how they pay their taxes. Willard doesn't work for a living, the bulk of his income is from investments and the tax code is written to favor those who make their money in that manner, which obviously are mostly very wealthy individuals.
The reason there is so much interest in the years 2008/9 is because in the tax returns for 2010, the only full year Willard has released, in which he paid 13.9% in taxes, the return shows a deduction which was brought forward from 2009. This would indicate Willard didn't need that deduction in 2009 and that would seem to suggest that was because he was already showing a zero balance in taxes owed for 2009.
Now to clear up who is wanting to tax who. An independent study conducted by an independent group, the
Brookings Institution and the Tax Policy Center, not FOX NEWS or MSNBC, has crunched the numbers of WIllards tax plan and has found that his tax proposal would force a $2,000 tax hike on average middle-class families with children, while the wealthiest 5 percent of Americans — including Romney — would get a tax cut of $87,000.

President Barack Obama’s tax plan, by contrast:

• Calls on Congress to immediately prevent a tax hike on the 98 percent of Americans who make less than $250,000. A typical family of four would otherwise see their taxes go up by $2,200 a year.
• Cuts the deficit by more than $4 trillion through spending cuts and reforms and ensuring everyone pays their fair share, while still making investments that strengthen the middle class and grow our economy.
• But don't take my word for it, look it up, it's a 10 second search...

Now I can understand the confusion shown by the writer, after all, it's not easy to see very clearly when you have all that Trickle-Down Fairy Dust being sprinkled all around you.

Taxes are an area that the wealthy have been able to manipulate over the last 3 decades, really reducing their tax burden,  and now with Romney picking Ryan as his running mate, along with his tax scheme, the wealthy will pay even less taxes while increasing taxes on 95% of the tax payers, and increasing the debt by $5 trillion more.

Now would be a great time to look at the tax solution offered by Presidential candidate Gary Johnson, known as the Fair Tax. One can find out how this tax works in a very detailed website a fairtax.org. In general, it does away with the tax on our income allowing you to keep every dime you earn, and instead taxes the money you spend. This in itself with greatly reduce the control government has by focusing away from where the money comes from, and rather where it goes.

It will still be progressive in that the wealthy spend far greater amounts of money on goods and services than the average American, and in turn will pay a higher tax. Take the $78000 tax credit Romney received for the care and maintenance for his dancing horse. Under the Fair Tax plan, instead of a tax credit, he would have actually paid a tax of nearly $18000 for the goods and services required for the maintence of his dancing horse.

Another plus to this tax system is that all of the money being spent by the candidates as well as the SuperPac money which some estimates place at around one billion dollars this year, would be taxed at the time of spending, which would bring in around $230 million in tax dollars as opposed to being tax free now.

If Romney's tax issues are of concern, as well as an overgrown government bureaucracy, and the intrusion into your personal finances by the government, then one should go to fairtax.org, and see the plan.

We are a consumer nation, so why are we taxed on our income, and not on what we consume? The wealthy consume more, so they will pay more. You can't hide or deduct what you spend, so the chances of a Mitt Romney getting away with something is greatly diminished, and he will no longer have anything to hide.

It's a shame that the system we have now forces Mitt Romney to hide how little he actually contributes to this country while he is looking to increase the burden on the average citizen. That's Romneyhood for you, take from the poor and give to the rich!

canative62 commented on Saturday, Aug 11, 2012 at 13:23 PM

JUST MORE propaganda from the left that has NO TRUTH in it.

TheSovereign commented on Saturday, Aug 11, 2012 at 20:33 PM

What propaganda? The Fair Tax is a tax solution promoted by Libertarian candidate for President, Gary Johnson. What about it is propaganda? It's a concept, and one that appears to make sense.

Is it that you don't understand it? I can see where that would be possible. I also don't think it's from the left, at least I haven't seen it promoted by the Democratic Party. Strange that you would label it from the left. I guess it's just that you have a form of turrets syndrome that causes you to blurt out random nonsense. You should see a doctor for that, you do have medical insurance, right? After all you are a capitalist Conservative, so you must be rolling in the dough, right?

TheSovereign commented on Saturday, Aug 11, 2012 at 20:39 PM

Larry,

I remember back in St Ronnie's day, Bill Maher stated, "for some reason trickle down seems more like they are pissing on my head" and I still agree with that statement.

LarryBaca commented on Sunday, Aug 12, 2012 at 02:10 AM

Sov, yeah I remember Bill's comment, still funny, and still relevant.
Oh, you didn't know? Native is one of those rich guys, just like Willard, huh Native? Rolling in the dough Native...

crimeriddendump commented on Monday, Aug 13, 2012 at 10:15 AM

I do find it ironic that the suporters of the Taxes Enough Already party are actively supporting someone who has promised to raise lower and middle class taxes. It just makes zero sense.

crimeriddendump commented on Monday, Aug 13, 2012 at 14:49 PM

I also find it hilarious that people are saying that putting taxes back to the same level as when Reagan was president is "hating the rich." By that "logic" I guess St. Ronnie was the biggest hatter of the rich EVER!

LarryBaca commented on Monday, Aug 13, 2012 at 17:51 PM

I wonder what St. Ronnie would say about Willard refusing to release his tax records?

LarryBaca commented on Tuesday, Aug 14, 2012 at 00:17 AM

"Maybe if you actually knew the truth instead of the propaganda of the left
you would not sound so foolish and ignorant..".....Native

Does that go for Willards refusal to release his tax records?

LarryBaca commented on Tuesday, Aug 14, 2012 at 01:50 AM

d"Answewr the question is Romney's tax issue illegal IF SO BRING UP CHARGES. Otherwise it is in fact The same as Obama's college transcripts..... NO more < NO less.."

Once again, this time real slow...

Anyway how can we tell if he won't release them?

Bull153 commented on Tuesday, Aug 14, 2012 at 09:32 AM

I might opine that Ronald Reagan would say the same thing about Barak Obama's last minute use of executive privilege to cover Eric Holder's fanny from the DOJ refusal to comply with the Congressional subpoena of "Fast & Furious" records. One might ask what Mr. Holder is hiding from us?

- Ron -

crimeriddendump commented on Tuesday, Aug 14, 2012 at 10:02 AM

Seems we have pshyic here that made a connection to St. Ronnie after-death!

Please Bull153, tell us EVERYTHING that St. Ronnie has told you!

LarryBaca commented on Tuesday, Aug 14, 2012 at 14:51 PM

Crim...., when I just logged on a minute ago, I seen a piece by you about the back-and-forth letter writing. Had to do something else and when I returned it was gone, WTH...
I hope it was you who deleted it and not censored.... what's the story?

Oh Bull, the refusal of Willard to release his tax records is much more perplexing than Fast & Furious. Eric Holder is not running for President, is he?

rozemist commented on Tuesday, Aug 14, 2012 at 15:52 PM

Its still there Larry,I just read it.
Sincerely,rozemist

TheSovereign commented on Tuesday, Aug 14, 2012 at 15:56 PM

So, what was the excuse that all of the prior presidents used when they invoked executive order?

And since this "Fast and Furious' was a program started by the last administration, might Holder be holding out and or Obama invoking executive order to protect the office of the president, namely the last president? Presidents are in an exclusive club, and tend to look out for each other regardless of party affiliation.

And lastly, would you not agree that the corrupt Congressman Issa is just looking to score political points and is not really concerned with perceived misdoings by the DOJ?

And what does any of this have to do with a presidential candidate who is looking to raise taxes on 95% of the population so as to further reduce his obligation to the country that has provided the opportunity for his to gain his wealth either by honest means or ill be gotten, while keeping his taxes secret? Does he not have the integrity of his father, who released 10 years of his taxes when he ran for office?

rozemist commented on Tuesday, Aug 14, 2012 at 16:06 PM

Doesn't sound to me like invoking executive order is a rare thing

President Obama is not the first President to invoke executive order as Sov pointed out.
Today, the White House pointed to recent history in announcing the president’s decision. “Both [Bush and Clinton] protected the same category of documents we’re protecting today (i.e., after-the-fact internal Executive Branch materials responding to congressional and media inquiries — in this case from the Justice Department),” the White House told reporters, adding that presidents have invoked executive privilege 24 times since President Ronald Reagan was in office:
Reagan claimed executive privilege three times, according to a 2008 Congressional Research Service report (PDF): in connection with investigations into Canadian oil leases, Superfund enforcement practices, and memos written by Justice William Rehnquist when he worked in the Justice Department, ahead of his nomination proceedings for the Supreme Court.

George H.W. Bush only invoked it once: In 1991, he allowed Dick Cheney, then the defense secretary, to not turn over documents subpoenaed during a congressional investigation into a Navy aircraft program.

Clinton was the first president to invoke executive privilege without issuing a written order; according to today’s White House statement, he claimed the privilege 14 times, including to avoid having to testify about his involvement in the Whitewater scandal in 1995.

George W. Bush invoked executive privilege six times, including to avoid handing over documents to a congressional committee on the FBI’s use of mob informants in Boston, and to deny access to Justice Department correspondence about Clinton’s fundraising tactics.

In 2007, the Bush White House also declined to give Congress documents about the death of Pat Tillman, the football star-turned-Army Ranger, who was killed in Afghanistan. The military initially said Tillman was killed in a firefight with the enemy, but it was later discovered that he was shot in a friendly fire accident. In refusing to hand over the documents, Bush’s counsel said the documents “implicate Executive Branch confidentiality interests.”

Barely a month later, Bush used the privilege to allow Karl Rove, his senior adviser at the time, to avoid testifying before Congress during its investigation into the firing of nine federal prosecutors, allegedly for partisan reasons.

In fairness will you post obama's dumbest quotes as well or are you satisfied maintaining a blog that presents a skewed look at quotes from a singled out politician?

I think your blog would be much more interesting and courageous if the president's dumb quotes were also included in your blog. It would give credibility to the point you are trying to make about presidential candidates. Readers would find your blog more appealing as it would allow them to understand that all candidates are responsible for dumb quotes at times. Singling out one presidential candidate for his verbal mistakes can come across to readers as politically biased...something to be avoided for the sake of one's credibility.

LarryBaca commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 00:15 AM

I tried to find some but apparently Obama has never misspoke...He is amazing, isn't he? :-)
Tell you what Fredo, why don't you start one on Obama and we will see who gathers up the best ones, remember the rule is, they have to be real.

Bull153 commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 08:15 AM

I guess people have forgotten Mr. Obama's famous "57 states" remark. More recently, He mispoke when he said small business ownners didn't create their businesses, someone else did. Joe Biden is a treasure trove of misstatements. Who cares? I am much more concerned with the actions of those elected officials or candidates than their misstatements. We all are capable of saying something silly or misspeaking.

canative62 commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 10:13 AM

how about when he introduced Joe Biden as the next Predident of the U S ?
like Romney did to Ryan?

crimeriddendump commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 10:20 AM

LarryBacca qualified that the quotes must be REAL Bull153, not just repeated lies from FOX:

The "57" States remark was taken out of context from when he almost said "50" but then said "47" right after. Watching the video as opposed to reading the transcripts actually shows this quite well.

Obama NEVER said "small business ownners didn't create their businesses" that was also taken very much out of context. Here is the ACTUAL quote:

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business. you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires."

Finally, bringing up Biden is completely irrelevant to the conversation as the topic was comparing Romney quotes to Obama quotes.

In the future, if you are not interested in the topic, please don't comment on it. Especially, don't comment if all you has is rumor, superstition, or completely wrong information as you have posted above.

Bull153 commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 10:33 AM

Well, first of all, this is an open forum for discussion and you are not in charge - do not presume to tell me what and when I can or cannot contribute.

You can spin all you want, the remarks were made. If you are going to hold Mr. Romney accountable for his statements then you must hold Mr. Obama accountable as well, and use the same standards. But the left has never been known for its fairness, and then, neither have you.

Mr. Obama did make the following statement...as you point out. " If you’ve got a business. you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen." You say it is out of context...like nothing you claim Mitt Romney said was taken out of context.

The fact is, he said it. Live with it.

- Ron -

crimeriddendump commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 10:41 AM

There is a difference between reality and fantasy Bull153. I am commenting on reality and you are commenting on fantasy.

Also, when have I said anything about quotes from Romney aside from asking you to stay on topic? One could easily say if you are having trouble following a simple conversation here that maybe you don;t fully grasp the difference between comments made in context verses out of context.

Again, please stick with reality Bull153. There is plenty to criticize Obama over without having to resort to exaggerating the truth.

crimeriddendump commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 10:52 AM

Here is an example of context for Bull153:

I don't think people should be insulting the names of Native American's like Bull153. He called one Native American " How about I just call him ... Bob, Billy, White Feather, or Running Deer. This whole identity thing is really ridiculous."

Seems wrong to be mocking the traditional names of Native Americans. But then again, one can make someone say almost anything when context is removed.

Let this be a lesson: Don't pretend context is not important.

TheSovereign commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 11:12 AM

There seems to be a mental dishonesty if one is going to quote segments of sentences and/or paragraphs out of context to somehow score simpleminded political points. Even the rare FoxNews commentator has shown disgust in the lack of integrity at their actions of dissecting statements to create an illusion of a different statement.

Just shows the mental bankruptcy of the right, and the childish mentality of their constituency.

TheSovereign commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 13:43 PM

I did, he signed the health care bill that works toward eliminating fraud. It seems that the Conservative like to act like they want to eliminate fraud, but they in congress have voted 33 times to overturn this law, which just goes to show that they are in favor of fraud.

No wonder this congress has a 10% approval rating, one of the lowest of all time!

canative62 commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 14:20 PM

You mean that health care bill that is three time the original estimated cost and does three times more harm than good.
the health care bill that is causing employers to hold up hiring until they see (as Pelosi has said) what the actual effect on hiring will be....??? That bill.
The one that cut millions from medicare??? That bill

TheSovereign commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 14:35 PM

Yeah, that one, the one that cuts millions of dollars of waisted duplication and fruaduelent spending to the providers while not cutting a dime to the benefits.

The Ryan plan, now it cuts the same amount of money from Medicare and replaces the very successful and much prasied-by-the-recepients program with a voucher system. One that diminishes in value each year due to in*flation, just so the the wealthy can pay even less in taxes. And one must not forget that the CBO has shown that the Ryan budget will INCREASE the debt by $5 TRILLION DOLLARS, just so the wealthy can have more. Aren't we deep enough in debt after the past 30 years of Conservative policies, and aren't we Txed Enough Already? We cant afford to give the rich anymore handouts at the expense of the poor and the sick.

Why does Romney and Ryan hate the elderly sick? Why do they want to take away their safety net, especially when they are at a time when they will need it the most? Maybe because Ryan is 42 and has no need for it, and Romney is wealthy and does not need it. Such evil! Why do they hate the sick elderly and the hungry children, and why would YOU support someone like that!!!

LarryBaca commented on Wednesday, Aug 15, 2012 at 18:38 PM

Native, "The one that cut millions from medicare??? That bill?"
You fail to mention as did the SOV, that the Ryan bill cuts just as much.
The difference, putting it plain and simple, the Obama plan does so by cutting payments to providers, the Ryan plan does so by cutting services to recipients and making Medicare a voucher system.
There is a difference, you should be more specific when making broad claims...

In a recent interview with Willards 5 or 10 Cadillac driving wife, Ann Romney, when asked about the missing tax records, she said they would not release anymore tax records because "..they would just have more ammunition to use against us..". REALLY ANN? There is AMMUNITION hidden in those tax records that can be used by the Dems? REALLY ANN? You are admitting that? REALLY???

Who cares whats in his tax records? If something were wrong the IRS would have been all over him by now. Barry's class warfare in action. Barry sez it's criminal for others to be wealthy. The most divisive president in US history.

The hypocritical democrats didn't make a peep about little Timmy Geithner's tax returns did they? Time to MOVE ON LUNATICS!

Why didn't Barry receive the exact same amount of scrutiny that is thrust upon Romney?

Why didn't anyone look into Barry's personal history before being elected? Why does Barry expect the kind of political transparency from the opposition that he safely avoided providing before he took office? Why do left wing lunatics expect to receive more than they ever give. Romney should toy with Barry's reelection team all the way till November...then tell em to go suck eggs.

TheSovereign commented on Saturday, Aug 18, 2012 at 11:00 AM

Who says anything is wrong? Romney's wife is the one who opened the door by claiming their is nothing wrong. Why would she say that?

It's the commenter on the right that is frantic about deflecting the subject, which also opens the door to concern. This person is running for president, should he not show the same integrity that others who ran for this office has done? Say, like his father did? Seems his father had nothing to hide. There must not have been any ammo in his tax forms.

What's that old gotcha question the right used to use all of the time? Oh yeah, What's the big deal, if you didn't do anything wrong, there should be no problem then, right?

crimeriddendump commented on Saturday, Aug 18, 2012 at 11:13 AM

Obama's detractors say he needs to release his birth certificate (for the forth or fifth time), his college transcripts and his selective service card , etc etc etc. BUT the same people the audacity to make excuses for Romney not doing what every other Presidential nominee has done for the past 20 years in releasing 10 years of back taxes?

I think THAT is the real hypocrisy here.

And who said Obama didn't get scrutinized when he ran of President? Every Presidential candidate goes through it, why not Willard.
