This is on the radical side ,(I hope) it doesn't represent the majority of the Tea Party..
Hopefully someone from the Tea Party will speak out on this ,"soon".
I am not a follower of the Tea Party, but to be honest to anyone who wishes to categorize them needs to take a little more time and look at the various parts.
One segment of the Tea Party is the Libertarian vein which is where the Pauls, father and son, live and are prominent. This is the small government crowd who is pushing to reduce government by eliminating various branches of the government such as air traffic controllers, and the IRS. Of course these two examples of what they would eliminate is an extreme view point of Libertarianism. Other areas that Libertarians stand against is government intrusion on civil liberties, such as regulating social conduct. This will cause an eventual schism in the Republican Party due to their alliance with the religious right, and their need to have their biblical laws turned into our National laws, which are typically restrictive in nature, and reduce liberties.
Then you have the extreme fringe elements of the conservative movement. Those who are lacking in the education of American history, and/or the Constitution, and are fueled by conspiracy theories, and in general, motivated by misinformation presented in the form of propaganda coming from talk radio and the FringeNoise entertainment channel. This is where you get the birthers, and the death panel promoters.
This vain of the Tea Party are actually the most noisy and the least informed, and are easily manipulated by the misinformation that is doled out to confuse, anger and mislead them in their beliefs. This branch of the Tea Party are those who make over the top, hard to justify, unreasonable statements about the current president which are not true.
This is the "useful idiot" vain that will get out and make all types of noise for the GOP so as to keep the attention off of what they are doing.
I may seem to be very critical of the second vain of the supposed grass roots organization that is sponsored by some of the wealthiest people and corporations in the country, but it is because of their lack knowledge to the Constitution, and of the actions of the founders that they claim they want to return to.
If the strength of the Libertarian vain continues to increase, and judging by how well Ron Paul has done in conservative straw polls, this could become a strong caucus that will divide the GOP, and possibly break off into their own Party.
The GOP leadership is quite perplexed by this turn of events. Just look to the issues Boehner is having trying to control his caucus. The GOP is beginning to take on the "herding cats" mentality while trying to get everyone in line. The days of a cohesive
GOP vote where each member gets in line as does what they are told seem to be slipping away.
The last issue with the Tea Party is that they are so desperate to be relative, they will sponsor people who don't necessarily represent a "back to the founders" point of view. You saw this with the candidates from Nevada, and Connecticut. Most of all, the Tea Party misread Scott Brown from MA., who as I called it after he was elected, turns out to be a moderate like the old GOP used to have.
Sorry Sovereign but I have to disagree with you. The Tea Party really isn't very divided amongst what we would consider "real Libertarians"(of the American variant) and conspiracy theorist religious fanatics. From what I can tell there is much meddling between the two "groups". Libertarian rhetoric about small government and the like mixed with religious fanaticism about "ONE NATION UNDER GOD!!!" and such. Of course mix that in with a little bit of racism and white nationalism, protest workers who are protesting, the anti-immigrant/Muslim rhetoric, and you might as well call yourself a fascist or "neo-fascist" if it made them feel better.
I don't totally disagree with you, I am just saying that at the moment the "Tea Party" is an umbrella over numerous groups.
I just think its important to define the various parts so as to know what you are dealing with, and deal with them accordingly.
